The Seattle DOT is retrofitting the Ballard Bridge next year to prevent a collapse in the event of a massive earthquake, but they're making a preemptive strike against would-be environmentalist critics via a State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) checklist. The document declares that the project will be minimally invasive and won't take too much of a toll on the wildlife that traverses (and swims) below. The moral of the story? Potential NIMBY-ers needn't worry about the fish who commute from Lake Union to the Sound every day -- they'll be just fine. If you still aren't convinced, you have until April 25th to send an appeal, but it'll cost you $50. [My Ballard]
