KIRO Radio reports that Washington is losing over $1.5 million a year in uncollected tolls on the 520 and Tacoma Narrows bridges. Not local drivers, mind you (we're too polite, most of us), but out-of-staters. "When we sent out information to say, 'Here's a license plate from your state. Please provide us the owner's information' they weren't responding," says the director of WSDOT's toll division. WSDOT discovered that Electronic Transaction Consultants Corporation, the company contracted to process the tolls, did not have agreements in place with Connecticut, Hawaii, or California.
