For the next six months, every time you look up at the Space Needle, you will be seeing green. Seattle resident Nicole Commins' design, aptly named "trees," was chosen from six finalists that had been put up to a public vote for the past few weeks to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Seattle's iconic landmark.
Painting of the new design will begin as soon as the current bout of rain subsides and will remain atop the Needle through April 21, 2013. So, get used to it.
The Needle has been topped with a "Galaxy Gold" paint job for the past six months, a throwback to it's original color. That design, which always seemed more like orange to me, was one of the finalists.
