Iffy Reservoirs

Four years ago, Seattle discovered leaks in some of their reservoir covers that were supposed to be waterproof. Now the city is investigating whether underground reservoirs in West Seattle, Beacon Hill, Myrtle and Maple Leaf were built to withstand earthquakes. Officials say there is no threat to the public or the water supply but Seattle Public Utilities has hired a three-person peer review panel to oversee computer modeling on the reservoirs, which will take several months.
