The Curbed Cup, Curbed Seattle annual Neighborhood of the Year tournament, began this week. The deserving candidates will be presented in one match-up per day through the week, with results reviewed on Friday. Polls are open for 24 hours, starting now!
Today, our face-off is between the defending Curbed Cup champions and an upstart making their first appearance.
First up, the defending Curbed Cup champions...Fremont. Home of the Fremont Troll, The Lenin Statue and all of the naked bicyclists that ride past both of them. Fremont recently lost its world record for zombie gathering so you better believe they're going to fight to keep this title.
The challenger is the up and coming neighborhood of Columbia City. Wikipedia says its "known either for being one of the "hottest" neighborhoods in Seattle, or for its rapid gentrification, depending on one's perspective." A mixture of charming fixer-uppers and state-of-the-art microcommunities, this reborn section of South Seattle is still reinventing itself.
So, will Fremont move one step closer to a repeat or will the upstart upstage the defending champ?
