Suit Up: Recent weather has reminded us that it’s good to have at least one bathing suit in our repertoire. Here are a handful of local designers who channel our fleeting rays into some adorable and sizzling suits.
Africa born and Maui-bred Leah Lawrence’s debut collection for Drifting Arrows was inspired by wanderlust, offering four simple and clean styles made in the USA with Italian fabrics in colors like vein, noir, succulent and lapis. Available this June at Les Amis.
If pin-up is your style, or you want a little more coverage while keeping the va-va-voom intact, check out Frankie Four suits at Velouria. Designer Angela Holstrom repurposes vintage stretch fabrics into suits inspired by by-gone eras when less was more.
Tininhas-owner Cristina Silva has continued her devotion to the bikini with her line Teu, which debuted last year after she closed her Fremont boutique. Not for the faint of heart, these chic suits, with strategically placed ruching to enhance what your momma gave you, are brave enough for the beaches of Brazil. Are you? Shop tininhas.com.
And while not a Seattle-based line, Eco Swim by Aqua Green, an earth-friendly line dedicated to keeping it green, is partnering with Nordstrom this Saturday, May 19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to clean up the shores of Lake Washington at Colman Park ). Call 425-455-5800 x 1560 or click here to join the effort, because there’s nothing better than a clean beach to wear your cute suit to.
Show Pony LA: Word has it that Show Pony owner Stephanie Hara is opening an LA outpost of her popular Fremont boutique. Set to open on May 25 on West Third Street, Show Pony LA will bring the best of Seattle to SoCal, including Suzabelle, Tuesday Scarves and Prairie Underground. And speaking of?starting today and running through May 20 Prairie’s having a trunk show at Show Pony. Check out more of the current season’s collection and take 10 percent off all in-store Prairie purchases. Click here for available styles/colors.
Strange But True: Fleurt, West Seattle’s adorable flower and gift shop, now carries grow-your-own culinary mushroom kits by Back to the Roots. Any why am I telling you this? Because the co-owner of that company is Alejandro Velez, one of Emily Maynard’s suitors on the new season of The Bachelorette that debuted this week and I just can't resist pointing that out. I wonder if little Ricki even likes mushrooms?
Last But Not Least: Madewell’s Denim Road Trip is making its final stop in Seattle on Saturday, May 19 from noon to 5 p.m. at Westlake Center. Their custom, tricked out Airstream will be filled with jeans and the stylists to style you in them. Save 15 percent off your purchase; enter to win a sweepstakes for five years of free denim; get your hair done at their braid bar; and keep your eye out for one of five free jeans cards in the block around the trailer during the Denim Dash scavenger hunt.
