June 15, 2012 -- do you know what happened on that day? That was your last chance to put a bid on Heronswood Gardens, that herba(li)ceous dream world where over 10,000 plants from all over the world call home. Well, the final gavel has sounded to end the silent auction for said estate and nursery, and the winner is the Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribe, descendants of the Salish people. For an undisclosed amount, this Native American tribe snagged ancestral lands located within the 15-acre property. But for botany-enthusiasts and protectors of historic sites, fear not -- the way it looks right now, the tribe has no intention of razing any existing nature-treasures and instead plans on staying the course to maintain this thriving jungle garden. Auction, accomplished.
