Help for Rainier Beach

The City of Seattle is calling in the big dogs on this one: our "local" government shelled out nearly a million bucks ($978,000 to be exact) to the federal Bureau of Justice Assistance to help reduce juvenile crime in the Rainier Beach area. It's good to hear that Seattle is taking a good, hard look at how to remedy the disproportionately high levels of crime that occur in the South end. Of top priority is the intersection of Rainier Ave South and South Henderson Street, an "segment" that has developed a rather renowned reputation for crime in the area. [SW]
