Time for landlords to be more accountable, say the tenants of Seattle. No more living in houses with leaky roofs, in apartments with rat problems, units with structural damage that threaten one's safety -- or at least that's the hope with the new system the Tenants Union of Washington State and the Seattle City Council are trying to enact. Essentially, this new system requires landlords to register their buildings so that every 5 to 10 years, an inspector can come around and take a peek to make sure the units are being kept in safe, livable conditions. City council won't vote on the measure until October 1 at the earliest [KPLU]
