Greening the Masses

Greening a house need no longer be an expensive exhibition of wealth by the crunchy, granola type. Columbia City's Dwell Development is starting that change by building unsubsidized, green homes in Rainier Valley that are as wildly energy efficient as they are affordable. While these houses certainly aren't dirt cheap -- Seattle Weekly reports that they'll probably sell in the low $500,000 range -- they're certainly more economically accessible and less pretentious, as all the "bells and whistles" are thoughtfully installed with cost-effectiveness in mind, rather than for the sake of froo-froo fashion.
