What The Hell Did Bertha Run Into Below Seattle?

We're pretty sure this is how horror movies get started.

Bertha, the Highway 99 tunnel drill that is currently one-eighth of its planned route from SoDo to South Lake Union, has stopped moving. That's because it's run into an unidentified object that's not allowing it to go any further. As for what the unexplained object is, an WSDOT official told the Seattle Times, "We don't know whether it is man-made or natural."

Five weeks from now, when the giant monster that hatched from the egg Bertha just disturbed is wreaking havoc across the dystopian landscape that used to be Seattle, we can all look back on this moment and say, "That's when we should have moved to Spokane."
