Fifth & Columbia Tower Will Be Home To New Kind Of Seattle Hotel

A few weeks back, we heard that Fifth and Columbia was finally set to become home to the largest building built in Seattle in over 20 years.

Permits reveal plans for a luxury hotel from the 2nd to 15th floors in the 43-story tower. Wednesday we learned entertainment and hospitality company SBE will open the 184-room hotel via the Seattle Times.

SBE is known for their SLS Hotels brand, which runs upscale hotels in Beverly Hills and South Beach and as plans to open hotels in New York City and Las Vegas as well.

So what is a hotel company that's known for sun and glitz doing all the way up here?

"There's not a lot of glamour or excitement around the hotel properties here like you find in other gateway cities," he said. /shotsfired.

According to the Times, the hotel will include 30,000 square feet of restaurants and clubs as well as 20,000 square feet of conference and event space. The hotel is expected to have multiple restaurants, amongst other amenities.

The tower is expected to be completed in 2016.
