Artspace, a non-profit residential development developer, will be setting up shop near the intersection of Rainier Avenue South and Martin Luther King Jr. Way South after finalizing a deal with Sound Transit. The $1.5M land purchase will put the Mount Baker Station Lofts mixed-use building right next to the Mt. Baker light rail station.
The $18M building will include 57 affordable living or working spaces and 12 commercial spaces for non-profits and "creative enterprises." Artspace, who says they want the project to help turn Mount Baker into an urban village, says they currently have 800 residential applicants on waiting lists for their live/work spaces.
