On December 1st, 2012, the Semiahmoo Resort closed its doors after the Upper Skagit Indian Tribe was unable to find a buyer to take over the failing hotel and golf resort. Six month later, a new ownership group made up of Resort Semiahmoo and Wright Hotels, Inc., has purchased the property for $19.5M and hopes to do for it what they did for Cedarbrook Lodge near Sea-Tac last year.
"The resort's expansive spa will be restored, and all athletic facilities will receive attention to bring them to full utility," Rolfe said. The partners plan to spend $6?million on improvements and reopen in August.
"The goal is that people will be comfortable," said Jerry Anches, a partner in Resort Semiahmoo and Cedarbrook Lodge. "It won't be anywhere near where we want it to be but at least they will be able to get a feel for what it was like before."
The re-opening of the 198-room hotel could re-invogirate the town of Blaine as well, since the closure led to over 200 job losses at the time.
