Hirabayashi Place Hopes To Revitalize Seattle's Japantown Neighborhood

Construction is set to begin January 2014 on a $29M affordable-housing project called Hirabayashi Place on the corner of South Main Street and Fourth Avenue South, per PSBJ. The 96-unit complex will also offer 6,500 square feet of ground-floor commercial space in an attempt to revitalize the neighborhood. The project is named for Gordon Hirabayashi, the UW student who famously resisted the Japanese-American internment during World War II that devastated Seattle's Japantown neighborhood. In his honor, this may be one of many steps to help get the area back to its glory days.
