And she's off! Bertha the tunnel boring machine (and not a boring tunnel machine) has begun her big dig underneath Seattle, starting in SoDo on Tuesday afternoon. Her 1.7-mile voyage under downtown Seattle will be a slow one. For now her travels will take her six feet per day, though eventually she'll get up to 35 feet per day.
