Residents of Laurelhurst have been enjoying the Battelle campus a.k.a. Talaris Conference Center ever since Richard Haag transformed a swamp into a park complete with a pond, fountain and Japanese-style plants over fifty years ago. Those same residents are now embroiled in a fight with the properties current owners, who want to turn it into an 80 single-family home community. The Seattle's Landmarks Preservation Board nomination the site for landmark designation last week and until the issue is resolved, 4000 Property LLC will have to sit tight.
