The 3rd annual Seattle Curbed Cup is in the books and we'd like to congratulate Greenwood, the plucky upstart who came into the 16-neighborhood tournament as the 7-seed, for pulling off another miraculous upset to earn the 2013 Curbed Cup Championship.
It was quite the challenging road to the finals for the North Seattle 'hood. They held off 10-seed Georgetown by just a few votes in the first round. In the Elite Eight, they upset 2-seed Capitol Hill to advance. In the Final Four, they shocked 3-seed Belltown by a wide margin to move on to the championship against 1-seed and defending champion Ballard.
Early on in the championship vote, it looked like Ballard was going to walk away with the title. However, thanks to a record turn-out of 1,016 votes, Greenwood was able to surge ahead on the final day of voting to claim the crown.
Greenwood now joins 2011 champion Fremont and 2012 champion Ballard in the pantheon of great Seattle neighborhoods. Thanks to everyone who voted!
