Five Properties Worth Buying Along Metro Bus Route 107

Seattle has buses. So does Renton. Use them In which case you might as well find a place to live along a line. One line at a time. Here's the next one, selected at random for the fun of it.

Renton has Boeing, and more than that too. Route 107 takes people from Rainier Beach to downtown Renton. A quick and useful commute.

↑ Modern and marvelous. You know a house is built for conscious commuters when two key parts of the description are that it is near light rail and wired to charge an electric car. How long until every house comes with a recharging station? Your guests may thank you. A brand new "4-Star Certified Built Green Urban Single Family Home" is available for $369,999. Squeaky clean and green with 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, and 1,561 square feet that have never been lived in. You might have to take a class in how to use your house. Will new modern houses come with userIDs and passwords?

What a difference a year makes. Here's a house that was custom built in 2013. It costs a bit less, $356,250, and emphasizes what's big about it: spacious living room, vaulted ceilings, walk-in closet, oversized shower, and extra wide hallways. There are some good reasons for a little extra room. Ask anyone that's had to maneuver a wheelchair during a recovery. Ah, but you'll probably never have to worry about that. You can concentrate on the 1,861 square feet, 3 bedrooms, 2.25 baths, and the gourmet kitchen. You can also be impressed with the cleanest laundry, unless that's because no one has ever used it.

↑This house was built just after WWII, in 1947. Modern meant something different then. A 2,040 square foot house was probably a step up from houses ten years earlier. Now, $289,900 gets you 4 bedrooms and 2 baths; and an opportunity to settle into a house that has settled into a neighborhood. It is looking good for a 70 year old. Even the kitchen has been upgraded. Be surprised that the bit of a view of the lake remains. No one has built up to block the view. Enjoy.

As-Is and chainlink set a tone that takes an inspired eye to see the potential. Here's an 830 square foot house with 3 bedrooms and 1 bath for $269,000 on Beacon Hill. Consider it a blank canvas inside and out, where any improvement will be cheered by the neighbors. A bit of style goes a long way when you start with something simple and straightforward. That tub, though, it's either very retro or one of your first opportunities.

↑Imagine this: it is 1941, the US has just gone to war, and we don't know how long it will take or who will win. It was a good time to build a small (840 square foot), simple house with a lot of room for gardening. The tradition continues because it looks like the backyard has very little lawn and a lot of veggies. Eat well. You get more than a garden for $225,000. There are 2 bedrooms and 1 bath, and all the basics. Live small, live frugal, and reuse a house and all its materials rather than build new. Sometimes the greenest solution is to step back 70 years and appreciate the past.
