Stadium Place's Grand Vision Begins with Embassy Suites Hotel

New, 2 comments

Construction for the 23-story Embassy Suites Hotel will break ground this September in what is currently a parking lot adjacent to CenturyLink Field in SoDo. This project, with an estimated cost of over $300M, is part of the East Block of the larger Stadium Place project in Pioneer Square. A nine-story office tower will follow the construction of the hotel, led by the Seattle-based developer American Life.

Embassy Suites, part of the Hilton hotel chain, hopes this property will become their flagship hotel in the U.S. The hotel will have 282 rooms, a 13 Coins restaurant on the ground floor, a conference center and ballroom, an outdoor plaza, a health club, pool, and offices when finished.

Degen & Degen of Seattle is doing the interior design of the hotel while the outside is designed by Freiheit & Ho Architects based in Kirkland. The project will be financed through the EB-5 foreign investor program promoted by American Life, which grants green cards to foreign investors in exchange for investing large sums into new developments that create jobs. The nine-story office tower when built will host a restaurant and bar on the top floor.

Stadium Place offers a grand vision for the SoDo neighborhood of Seattle. One glance at the project's promotional video renders the image of a mixed-use modern entertainment and business hub adjacent to Downtown Seattle. According to American Life, "One of the most exciting things about the project is its mix of uses. You will have great views of the city and Mount Rainier … [and] an entire mixed-use neighborhood consisting of apartments, hotels, restaurants, office buildings and a conference center." The location of the project is also geographically-ideal, at "the hub of the transition zone and at the intersection of all the public infrastructure – the train station, the ferries, the freeways."

When finished, Stadium Place will be composed of two blocks. The West Block will be home to 740 residential units, including units reserved for affordable housing, in three towers built atop a 16,000 square foot podium filled with retail. The East Block, in addition to the Embassy Suites, will have will have 460,000 square feet for commercial use and 16,000 square feet for retail. Look out for signs of construction on this luxury hotel after the Seahawk's opening game this fall.
