The United States Geological Survey (USGS) recently launched a Historical Topographic Map Explorer, which allows anyone to look over their massive collection to see how specific areas have evolved through cartography. The oldest Seattle map is an 1894 edition which you can compare to ones from 1897, 1909, 1958 and all the way up to 1992. Not only do you see how the city and surrounding area changed but also the ways in which USGS's map designs change as well. You might want to carve out some time for this one cause once you start looking around other parts of the state and country, you're gonna be here for a while.
