'Folded Veil' Building Design Back With 'Quieter' Approach

Martin Selig Real Estate and Perkins + Will presented initial designs for a 12-story, 100-unit apartment building at 3031 Western Avenue back in March. One of those designs featured a 'Folded Veil' concept which uses fold lines to impart a "gentle sense of movement" to the exterior. The review board liked what they saw and asked them to move forward with the design, albeit with some guidance to "quiet" and refine the project. Now they're back with new & improved renderings for an August 5 recommendation meeting. They've integrated the veil into the overall composition and streamlined the feel of the building. Goodbye jagged edges, hello streamlined surfaces.
