Only 12% of Seattle Cops Actually Live in Seattle

According to census data, only 12% of Seattle police officers actually live in Seattle. That kind of stat might not have been that interesting two weeks ago. However, given what's going on in Ferguson, MO, new attention is on local police forces and how connected they actually are the communities they oversee. The FiveThirtyEight blog looked at the 75 U.S. cities with the largest police forces and Seattle's was near the bottom in terms of local living. In 2011, CHS created a breakdown of where Seattle's cops actually live and while many do live in the area, many others are coming from demographically-different places such as Kent, Snohomish, Edmonds and Bellevue.
