Catfish Corner Closes; Zippy's Giant Burgers Coming to Georgetown

This week's top hits from Eater Seattle, Curbed's sibling bar, restaurant, and nightlife blog.

THE SHUTTER-- This week, news broke that two longtime Seattle establishments have closed up shop or will soon shutter: After 28 years, Wallingford's Erotic Bakery is closing September 30 due in part to a "decline in demand for boob/penis/vulva cakes." And over in the Central District, the venerable Catfish Corner has shuttered. The soul food spot served cornmeal battered catfish, hush puppies, and sweet tea for just shy of three decades.

OPENING REPORTS-- In better news, popular White Center restaurant Zippy's Giant Burgers is opening a new location in Georgetown. Across town in Fremont, Schilling Cider House is inching closer to opening day on September 6. The tasting room will feature hundreds of bottles and more than 30 ciders on tap.

EXPANSIONWIRE--Rhein Haus, the Central District bier hall (formerly Von Trapp's) is opening a second location in Denver. The two story, 6,000-square-foot bar will bring its winning bocce, beer, and sausage formula in Colorado.
