With the impending population boom as well as the growth of Amazon and others in South Lake Union, it's a no-brainer to try and add more hotel rooms to the region. That's what EVEN Hotels and Staybridge Suites are thinking with plans for a 9-story hotel at 527 Fairview Avenue N, which will go before the design review board on September 3 for guidance. The project calls for 235 guest rooms and approx. 90 below-grade parking stalls. The first floor and approximately half of the second floor will be devoted to hotel amenities and public use. The hotel hopes to take advantage of its South Lake Union Urban Center location by creating a "place of refuge" amongst the pedestrian pathways from the Amazon campus and adjacent properties. The hope is to also create temporary housing for the "exponentially growing transient population of Amazon and the neighborhood." Murphy Varey Architects and Jonathan Nehmer + Associates are working on the project.
