Bertha Restart Moved to December (And If You Believe That...)

New, 2 comments

The last time we heard about a restart date for Bertha, it was going to be November 23. Well, what's another month? WSDOT posted an updated schedule on Thursday that pushed back the restart date for the tunnel boring machine to December 23. That means the Highway 99 tunnel from SoDo to South Lake Union is now slated to be finished by April 2018 (the original date was December 2015).

A lot of folks remain skeptical of the new start date, considering we've lost count of how many times it's been pushed back at this point. Even Bertha herself seems unconvinced, assuming the machine is actually the one who posted this Craigslist ad looking for a roommate:

Single lady looking for someone to share my spacious waterfront home. With high ceilings and a great location, this place is a dream. I like it so much, I've already stayed much longer than I originally intended. My initial lease was set to end last fall, but now it looks like I'll be finished with this place in 2018 or later. So we've got lots of time to get to know each other! There's a chance I might be moving on December 23, though it's unlikely. In the meantime, it would be great to split the rent (it's pretty steep! The price that's listed is actually an estimated cost per day for every day that I don't move) with someone. Plus, I'd really like the company. Though people come and go pretty often, it can get lonely, and I'm not exactly well-liked.

About me: I'm white, 7,000 tons, and about 57.5 feet tall. I've been in Seattle for over two years, and so far I like it. I don't get out much, but I'm actually a pretty fun gal; just ask the elected politicians who fought so hard to get me to come here!
