Welcome to Tiny Homes, an idea that is more popular with minimalists than with neighborhood associations and zoning boards. We'll point out the fun parts. You'll have to check out the logistics and legalities - but this one was started by an architect, so you know there was a plan.
There is a place called Vinland in Washington and it's neighbor is the Bangor Naval Submarine Base. That can make for some interesting traffic. But the real topic is a 448 square-foot house that's on the market at $325,000. If you shopped for it earlier the price was lower. It started out at $256,800. A 26% appreciation in less than seven months. Impressive. The house is tiny with only 1 bedroom and 1 bath, but it was designed and built by an architect in 1995 before tiny houses became popular. The high-pitched ceilings and simple decor maintain space instead of clutter; but there's also a lot of storage, just in case you need room for knick-knacks. There's also a shop, which at 504 square feet is bigger than the house; and an RV pad with hook-ups, just in case you needed yet another housing alternative on the lot. Even with the house, shop, and RV, there's plenty of room for gardens because it is a 1.01 acre property. That may explain why there are plans, footings, and a foundation for an 1,800 square foot house and a 2 car garage. A handy backup plan in case you find 484 square feet plus 504 square feet plus an RV aren't enough.
