Just down the street from the University of Washington in Seattle you'll find the U Village retail complex. Now, a Chinese developer has big plans to create a new version of that close to the University of Washington's Tacoma campus. Xunkun Luo of Wuhan Boshengshiji Real Estate Development is proposing a $135M mixed-use project on a site surrounded by South 21st and 23rd streets, and Jefferson and Tacoma avenues. Plans call for a minimum of 360 housing units, 200,000 square feet of retail space, 90,000 square feet of office space and 480 underground parking spaces. The first of two phases would begin in August 2016 with Ankrom Moisan Architects, BCRA and Absher Construction involved. Now Luo has to finalize a purchase of the land and show detailed plans and proof of financing to the city.
