Welcome to Tiny Homes, an idea that is more popular with minimalists than with neighborhood associations and zoning boards. We'll point out the fun parts. You'll have to check out the logistics and legalities - but this one's been around since 1942, so at least that is taken care of.
Okay, that shot of the house may look a bit dreary; but, Seattle is moving to Tacoma. Or, at least a news item suggests folks are moving out of King County as fast as others are moving in - and possibly faster. Feeling priced out of the market around Seattle? Here's a house in Tacoma that makes the point. For less than empty land in King County, you can buy a house in Tacoma. Granted, the house is only 600 square feet, but some folks like that. The price is only $85,000, and lots of folks can like that, or at least appreciate being in a house and debt free for the price of a down payment elsewhere. You get 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, and 4,950 square feet of land. The house and the yard are simple enough that small projects will make big improvements. Leave it as is and you may be fine (inspections are wise), but a bit of paint outside, some visits to the nursery, covering the faux-graffiti inside, and you may find you've got a sweet place to live and no worries about mortgages.
