Damn. According to a press release from broker Paul Thomas, not even a sale to a well-meaning mother & daughter duo will keep the Edith Macefield House from going "Up" to heaven. Despite beating out 37 other offers for the Ballard property, the new owners have had their hopes dashed thanks to Seattle code compliance issues. The duo planned to turn the old house into a coffee and pie shop named Edith Pie. However, doing so would require bringing the 100-year-old house into compliance with 2012 commercial code that is "virtually impossible" financially. According to Thomas, the buyers will now donate the house and sell the land with the hope that the structure can be moved elsewhere. Otherwise, it would have to be demolished. Despite lore, the house didn't actually inspire the Pixar movie "Up!," but it's story continues to have the makings for a great film of its own. We'll have to wait and see how it all ends.
