PSBJ got their hands on the a set of new renderings that showcase what the proposed sports arena in Tukwila could look like if approved and built. While Chris Hansen, Mayor Ed Murray and Seattle scramble to reboot the SoDo arena project, Ray Bartoszek's Tukwila plans have been running smoothly and may just overtake Seattle as the eventual destination for an NHL franchise and even an NBA one as well. The plan now calls for a 700K square-foot arena with 19,500-seating capacity. Plans call for a parking garage nearby and estimate the arena could host up to 230 events a year. Populous, who specializes in arena and stadium construction, is designing what's being called Northwest Arena for now. With plenty of design reviews and approvals to come, the earliest the arena could potentially be open is 2018.
