When he wasn't busy working with the civil rights movement and the peace movement, Stanley Shaw was helping to build Tacoma, one house, church or school at a time. The noted architect moved to 2500 N. Lawrence Street in 1931 and made sure to modernize the 1901 home along the way. He added an in-house vacuum system and customized the home with hand-carved monograms and a quote over the mantelpiece ("Strike A Light! The Universe Is Fireproof"). Over the years he also expanded the home to it's current 2,762 sqaure-foot, four-bedroom status so that three generations could live there over the course of 45 years. The charming local landmark is now up for sale asking $425K. It looks like it's about time for the home to get another round of renovations but the mark of a local design icon remains.
