When you think of staying overnight on Vashon Island, you probably think of a rustic bed & breakfast. While that's just fine, sometimes you just want something a bit more modern and minimal. The Lodges on Vashon hope to satisfy that need with their modular and contemporary setup. Recently-opened, the resort consists of 16 freestanding lodges and two communal spaces just on the outskirts of the main street area. Each lodge features a gas fireplace, flat screen television, modern bathroom fixtures and high-speed Internet. Bathrooms include an oversized soaking tub and private patio that lets you shower under the stars. The communal spaces, the Public House and the Pavilion, marry minimalism and eclecticism and attempt to mirror the Vashon sense of community on a micro level. The brainchild of Jena Thornton and Scott Shapiro, The Lodges were designed by architects at S+H Works and built by Champion Home Builders, with site work done by Cascade Built. Because it's Vashon, much of the furniture and artwork was sourced from on-island artisans and local shops.
