Cornerspotted: Ballard Bridge Closing in on 100 Years

Yesterday, we asked you to guess what Seattle bridge this is. It's the Ballard Bridge, a.k.a. the 15th Avenue Bridge.





Image: SMA, EITico68 This double-leaf bascule bridge was designed by A.H. Dimock completed in 1917 and marks the path from Lake Union to Lake Washington along Ship Canal. Tt has an opening span of 218 feet and a total length of 2,854 feet. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982 and has bothered bicyclists looking for more space along it's edges the entire time.
