If you worship at the alter of technology, South Lake Union might just be your church. Now the home of Amazon and Vulcan is getting a new literal church, just in case there’s still a few people leftover looking for something a bit more traditional to worship.
Per DJC, developer Greystar has submitted plans with the city for a project at 200 Eighth Avenue N. that would include a 280-foot mixed-use apartment tower and a new church. Plans also call for four levels of underground parking for 281 vehicles.
The 29,000 site, which is adjacent to Denny Park and bounded by John and Thomas streets as well as Eighth and Ninth avenues, has not actually been sold yet. Zoning on the lot also goes up o 240 feet so the developer will need a rezone to make it happen.
The church plans might sound unorthodox (pun intended) but it makes sense when you know the land is owned by Seattle Unity Church. According to a spokesperson, the sale of the land will fund the construction of the new church, which will be designed by Olson Kundig.
Weber Thompson is designing the tower, which plans to have multiple setbacks and decks, including one atop the 28th floor.
