Ballard Congregate Residence Building Looks For Feedback

The six-story structure planned for 1514 NW 52nd Street will include as many as 61 sleeping units as well as 1,600 square-feet of communal space

Calhoun Properties (a.k.a. the aPodment people) and ecco design are bringing their plans for a congregate residence building in Ballard before the design review board on Friday for early design guidance.

The six-story structure planned for 1514 NW 52nd Street will include as many as 61 sleeping units as well as 1,600 square-feet of communal space. Vehicle parking will not be included but space for 35 bikes will be provided. Amenity areas will exist on each side of the building.

Based on the preferred designs, sleeping units will average 180 square feet in size. Each floor will include a communal space and lobby space.

Ballard has had it's share of pushback with micro-housing developments such as this but with rents where they're at we'd imagine there's going to be some interest in these downsized lifestyle opportunities, especially at what is sure to be much lower rents than what they're seeing elsewhere. Not to mention that it's within walking distance of downtown Ballard.
