In 2003, Joseph Greif Architects were presented with a challenge on Mercer Island. They had to design a brand-new luxury home on a 1.5-acre site that's practically all steep slope. Their solution: a 4-BR, 4-bath residence called "Roots of the Pacific Rim" that's now available for $3.485M.
Here's what Grief says about the property:
The two-story house embraces the natural elements of light, water, and air to gracefully merge with the terraced landscape. Locally quarried stone anchors the house to the site and provides a framework for the stucco and timber elements. Custom art and details honor nature, from sculpted wood columnsto undulating glass walls.
Seattle Homes & Lifestyle Magazine dubbed it their "Home of the Year" in 2003.
The residence is impressive but the secret gardens and walkways that surround it might be our favorite part. The separate covered patio station that rises from the forest just down the road may just steal the entire show. Let's not forget that there's shared beach access down below so you really do get a connection to all elements with his Mercer Island mansion.
