Have fun storming this $1.4M Port Orchard castle

Rocks for walls are a sure way to make a house look medieval

If this house looked like a castle when it was built in 1949, then something else phenomenal must have happened since 1983 because it only sold for $170,000 then. Now, this Port Orchard home with river rock masonry for an exterior is on the market for $1,441,000. Someone's probably been busy for the last 33 years.

Rocks for walls are a sure way to make a house look medieval. Maybe they're massive Game of Thrones fans. The 4,314 square foot house carries the castle style past the facade and throughout the house with wrought iron, marble, and dark, heavy woods. There's a solidity that reinforces of feeling of being lord or lady over a domain.

There is a domain. It's called a lot. The lot is 0.75 acres of waterfront and water sides because the land is a point called Little Point, a small peninsula that juts into the water and is significant enough to be marked on the charts. That provides a 240 degree view of the Sound, Blake Island, Vashon Island, and Mt. Rainier. With 215 feet of low bank waterfront you could stage your own Viking landings. Or, be glad there's enough room for a 47 foot boat ramp. Check to see if that's a ramp for a 47 foot boat, or a boat ramp that's 47 feet long. Even on the shore, they've continued the solid theme with a sea wall that matches the house.

Inside, aside from the ornamentation and style, it is good to remember that is a house with 3 bedrooms and 4 baths. Granted, the rooms look like movie sets, and the master seems to include a curtained stage, but maybe that doesn't stay. The vaulted entry certainly seems appropriate. Wander through the rest of the house, and the lady and lord feel comes back. The office with wrap around windows looks like the center from which all you survey that is under your control, though the neighbors probably have a different opinion.

There are places to play. The billiards room with attached bar may be for power meetings, or just for fun. The workout machine in the solarium looks somewhat like a different kind of rack, though. Outside, there's a three hole putting green by the sea. Your own pebble beach.

A final touch, or a first impression, a gated entry that controls access to your domain. How about upgrading to a drawbridge and portcullis?
