Construction begins on The Danforth apartments & First Hill’s first Whole Foods

The 16-story, 265-unit luxury tower will be at the corner of Broadway and East Madison Street

Columbia Pacific Advisors announced Thursday that they’ve started construction on The Danforth, a 16-story, 265-unit luxury tower at the corner of Broadway and East Madison Street in First Hill.

The 1001 Broadway tower will also include First Hill’s first Whole Foods Market, which will take up 40,000 square-feet on the bottom two floors. It’s the ninth Whole Foods in Washington and the fourth in Seattle.

Plans also call for 355 underground parking spaces and the entire complex is expected to open by mid-2018.

Columbia Pacific Advisors first announced the project in November 2014. Tiscareno Associates is the architect, DCI is the structural engineer, GGLO is the interior designer and Howard S. Wright, a Balfour Beatty company, is the general contractor.

This is one of two big projects Columbia has planned for First Hill. Earlier this year, they announced plans to build a 243-unit senior housing community at 620 Terry Avenue on land owned by the Archdiocese of Seattle.
