We’ve been keeping an eye on the plans for a big hotel at 2nd Avenue and Stewart Street for some time. Now we know who is gonna build it.
Construction and development firm Skanska has just signed a $51.8 million contract with the Widewaters Group to build the Charter Hotel, a 16-story, 175,000 square-foot hotel with 229 guest rooms, a full-service restaurant, 5,000 square-feet of meeting space as well as a top floor lounge and outdoor terrace.
The entire hotel will be constructed on top of an existing parking structure built for the hotel and an adjacent 40-story apartment tower that Equity Residential is building. The parking garage is expected to include ZipCar spaces, e-vehicle charging stations, bike storage and changing rooms for cyclists.
The Charter will be part of Hilton’s Curio Collection, a grouping of unique hotels around the world that stand out in some way.
Hogan Campis Architecture is the architect on the project, which is expected to be completed in February 2018.
