Wonder at the walls in this Modern on Bainbridge

Great playful swirls of colors, oh, and Built-Green

Skip the useful statistics and official labels for a while. Look at the walls.

In at least two of the rooms and along the staircase to the second floor are great swirls of color, each location with its own palette and style that show something more interesting than yet another white wall.

Enough with the pretty pictures because there are other things to celebrate that are a bit more cerebral.

The 1,096 square foot house was built to high standards, 5-Star Built Green. That implies impressive efficiency, lower environmental impact, greater sustainability, lots of things that you may not notice every day. The lower utility bills will be monthly reminders. So may the solar panel rebates you receive. Check to see how much power they produce, and then check to see how much you need.

More noticeable will be the cork floors, quartz counters, and stainless steel appliances of a modern kitchen. Take a lesson from the marbled paint scheme in other rooms and create a back splash that will hide splatters better.

At its core, it is a 1,096 square foot two story that is part of an intentional community near downtown Winslow on Bainbridge Island. That partly explains the small lot size, 1,306 square feet; but a visit may be what you need to see what you get in the common spaces.

The price for the art, the efficiency, and being part of the community is $489,000. If your job’s on the mainland to the east, you also get to enjoy a couple of ferry rides per day. Wave at the whales while you sail by.
