The 520 bridge will be closed all weekend

That includes bikes and pedestrians, too

This weekend is not a great time to travel to and from the Eastside: The State Route 520 bridge is closing in both directions starting at 11 p.m. on Friday, March 31 through 5 a.m. Monday morning, April 3.

All lanes and ramps in both directions, including the bicycle and pedestrian path, between 92nd Avenue Northeast and Montlake Boulevard are affected.

The bridge has been closed eastbound every night since Thursday, leading up to the full-scale, two-day closure.

Much of the work will be similar to what’s been going on every night this week since Thursday: Crews will be removing obsolete chunks of freeway, including old offramps and some of the “Ramps to Nowhere” closest to the bridge.

As we mentioned last week with news of the smaller-scale closure, WSDOT has been working on removing the ramps since October 2014.

WSDOT is currently in talks with the City about transferring part of the ramps over, as the City Council requested in an ordinance last year. That part isn’t slated for removal until the Montlake phase of the 520 bridge, which is scheduled to begin next year.

Weather permitting, the weekend work may also remove some temporary tolling equipment.
