Ramblers, lots of ramblers - all under $300K

Thanks to proximity to lots of water and Tacoma, Gig Harbor is busy with inventory. Here are five of the area’s most affordable homes.

Start with a three bedroom, one and a half bathroom, rambler with 1,398 square feet inside that’s listed at under a quarter million, $230,000. Thanks to a large covered porch in front and an addition on the back, the 1978 house is wrapped with places to relax. Use the circular drive to keep from having to back up, and to make the 0.46 acre lot feel more like an estate. Another addition, outbuildings for shops and such.

Where’s the tree house? Evidently, this 1990 rambler that’s listed at $237,500 comes with a tree house, but there aren’t any photos of it. One reason to take a tour. The three bedrooms and one bathroom fit in 1,008 square feet. The most stylish room is probably the kitchen with its checkerboard floor, tile backsplash, and light green cabinets. The 0.34 acre lot includes gardens, fruit trees, and the mysterious tree house.

An early rambler, this one was built in 1934. With two bedrooms and two bathrooms in 1,248 square feet, it could be just right for a small family that likes a bit more rustic style. The wood stove emphasizes function over form. Original wood work and flooring is lived in, not overly polished. For a bit of a shine, go into the recently updated kitchen with its stainless steel appliances. At $245,000, the package also includes more than an acre.

Lakefront and $265,000 aren’t a common pairing in most of the region, but it is true for this 1978 single story home inside a gated community. And the lake, don’t forget the lake.

Another rambler, this one with 1,344 square feet, three bedrooms, and two bathrooms is priced at $269,950. That’s a $10K price drop. Have fun with the variety of colors that help define the various rooms. Stainless steel is its own color, and contrasts with the dark kitchen cabinetry. The main draw for some will be the flat, 0.42 acre lot. Room for kids and pets to run and roam can be one of the greatest luxuries.
