Lopez Island farm comes with bonus caboose ADU

A house, some barns, and an old train car

This farm for sale on the southern half of Lopez Island is anchored by a one-bedroom farmhouse—but it stands out thanks to some more unconventional quarters.

Since this listing is for an entire 10-acre farm, it naturally comes with some outbuildings: A couple of barns, one for livestock and another for equipment. A shed holds supplies for property’s garden and orchard. A wood and metal shop holds plenty of space for projects.

But the crown jewel of this listing has to be the accessory dwelling unit, a red caboose that sleeps six—ostensibly more than the main house—in walls of bunk beds. It turns out train cars are actually pretty huge.

A small picnic table sits outside for outdoor dining, and inside it comes equipped with a long, brightly-colored kitchen with plenty of cabinets for storage.

The main house, while it only has one bedroom, has 1,350 square feet of space, including a sunroom—plenty of room for guests and hobbies.

Walls of windows let in plenty of light from the surrounding farm. A wood stove along a stone wall keeps things cozy in the winter.

We first featured this farm when it briefly hit the market last year, wondering how this train car possibly got to Lopez—realistically, by boat. Since then it’s gone down in price from $795,000 to $695,000.

Ten acres is a lot of land—maybe with room, if the opportunity presents itself, room a couple of boxcars. Traincars or no, it’s more than ready for infinite days exploring the outdoors.
