Including vintage details right out of a storybook

In Ashford, Washington right by the Nisqually River, six miles from Mount Rainier National Park, and a two-hour drive from Seattle, this quaint little A-frame is listed for just $124,950. The 640-square-foot cabin had a studs-out remodel last year, but still hung onto its vintage charm, starting with the storybook scalloped trim along the roof edges.

The centerpiece of many an A-frame is going to be the front windows, and here, they make an especially strong appearance with a pattern of triangles opening up the top half of the home.

Inside, it hangs onto its rustic roots, with all wood-slat walls, contrasting exposed beams, and a cozy wood stove.

But back in the kitchen, although the design isn’t out of place, newer appliances make roughing it a little less rough. And yes: the house does get plumbing—also handy for the bathroom, which includes a shower.

Upstairs, a loft provides a little more privacy. A dormer window to one side not only brings in light from multiple angles, but provides more space to stretch out.

As it’s currently furnished—and there’s the option to buy all the furniture, too—the place can sleep six on two downstairs sleeper sofas and one queen bed tucked into the peak of the loft’s ceiling.

While this forested getaway is near plenty of hiking, it comes on nearly a third of an acre of land for woodsy adventures closer to home, too.
