The unique setting of a houseboat often comes with some offbeat choices in the floorplan; sleeping cubbies, built-in living room sets, and ladders are all in the norm. This houseboat near Gas Works Park, called Casa Sul Mare, does have one full, private bedroom—never a guarantee in a houseboat—but its second bed is lofted above the living room, suspended by chains.
It’s one of a series of whimsical elements in the 1982 home. Below the chain loft, a sunken living room comes complete with a built-in bench tucked under a massive window that doubles as a door to the back deck. In the master bedroom, a reading nook is cradled in stained-glass windows. A three-tier design means outdoor lounging space at lake level, off the bedroom, and on the roof in addition to the front porch and a Juliet balcony off the master
At 640 square feet, it’s on the bigger side for a houseboat, too, and all that space to stretch out means a larger kitchen than you’ll typically see on the lake (but it has a dinette to save space, anyway).
2143 N Northlake Way Slip 38 is on the market for $700,000—which includes a rare, owned slip—through Windermere.
