King County Metro 311 runs weekday commuters between the Eastside and downtown in the morning and home in the evening.

Like Sound Transit Express route 512, which we featured last week, the 311 operates mainly on freeways—so it only makes a handful of stops before entering downtown. But unlike the 512, it runs along a whole lot of them, starting on State Route 522 from Woodinville, moving to Interstate 405 through Totem Lake, then onto State Route 520 to pick up passengers in Clyde Hill and Medina. It makes one last stop in Montlake before heading downtown on Interstate 5.

It’s not a bus for people working something far outside the nine-to-five. It runs from 5:12 a.m. to 8:33 a.m. weekday mornings and 3:16 to 6:40 p.m. weekday evenings—best-case scenario, it gets someone to work and maybe a happy hour before ending its run. But it gets commuters from the beginning of its run at the Woodinville park and ride to Fifth Avenue and Jackson Street in about an hour.

We’ve found six notable homes along the route.

Not far from the Woodinville park and ride in the Hollywood Hill neighborhood, this four-bedroom home seems to draw inspiration from churches, cabins, and its area midcentury predecessors alike. It features vaulted ceilings, exposed beams, and a hillside construction that ensures even the basement gets large windows and natural light. It’s listed for $635,000.

This four-bedroom, 1966-built home in Kirkland features many hallmarks of its era, like a wide, thin stone fireplace, plus some extra details. A loft tucked in a vaulted ceiling above the living room creates a cozy office or library. That and a slightly-elevated dining area gives the living room kind of a faux-sunken effect. It’s listed for $510,000—plus $34 in HOA dues to cover a shared pool.

Just a few years older, this five-bedroom house west of the Totem Lake park and ride has a long, sloped roof that extends to the carport and a shed on one side. Since the living area is on the top half of this split-level, it has a gentle vaulted ceiling. A cozy, lower-level den has a wood stove fireplace. It’s listed for $599,000.

This 1976-built split-level in Yarrow Point has a sleek, white-brick fireplace that would be just as at home in a midcentury house, plus four bedrooms and a large, wraparound deck. Below that deck is an incredible amount of outdoor space—the lot is just under 16,000 square feet—and if that’s not enough, it’s about a block from the beach. It’s listed for $1.7 million.

2431 Evergreen Point Road, Medina

This four-bedroom Medina home from 1955 is full of built-ins: a window bench, shelves, a recessed fireplace. Skylights and floor-to-ceiling windows provide tons of natural light. It’s listed for $2.6 million—partially because of the Medina location, but certainly compounded by the half-acre lot.
