When many think of a commute from Vashon Island, they think of the ferry—and in the case of King County Metro route 118, they’d be partially right. The 118 starts its run at the Tahlequah Ferry Terminal connecting to Port Townsend, then runs up Vashon Highway to connect with the Vashon Island Ferry Terminal to Fauntleroy. It then hits a few stops in West Seattle along the edge of Lincoln Park before heading the rest of the way to downtown Seattle.

As one of just a couple of bus routes serving Vashon Island, this bus does a lot of work around Vashon communities, from Dockton on the southwest side of the island (the 119 serves the southeast side) to Burton, Valley Center, Ober Park, Glen Acres, and Vashon Heights, connecting people to not only the ferry but to downtown Vashon.

We found six notable homes along the route—mostly woodsy homes with water views.

This home is right along a stretch of no-bank Quartermaster Harbor waterfront, and looks bigger than it is, with one bedroom in 950 square feet. Inside, it appears to be a little bit of a fixer, but definitely maintains the beachfront vibe with plenty of exposed wood and big views. It’s listed for $658,000.

This massive property includes both a Victorian-revival house and an adjacent inn, with an outdoor patio with a large brick fireplace connecting the two. Between the three-bedroom house and four suites in the inn, the $949,500 asking price doesn’t seem so steep—at least compared to the rest of the metro.
