Seattle's Most Bike-Friendly Apartment Buildings, Mapped!

View as Map

3.4 percent of Seattle's workforce commute via bike to work. That's roughly 22,000 people. According to King County Metro, 500,000 bikes are loaded onto their buses every year. And all of these numbers will continue to go up as Seattle gets more and more bike-friendly. So why shouldn't we expect Seattle's booming apartment culture and Seattle's booming bike culture to intersect? As Renter's Week comes to a close, we took a look around to find the places to live around town if you're brining a bike in tow wherever you go. Some places, like Velo and Via6, have crafted large parts of their entire existence around cyclists. Other buildings were simply smart enough to make sure they offer a bike room for storage and maintenance.

Velo Apartments

Velo means ''bike' in French, so you know what you're getting right away. From the bike ramps found in the entry way, to bike lockers and a bike washing and maintenance station - Velo is designed to attract 'active' young professionals. Other bike-themed features include art made from recycled inner tubes found throughout the building and a large statue of a bicycle wheel greeting passersby at the front entrance. The building is also just a few blocks from Seattle's Burke Gilman Trail

This 654-unit apartment complex offers secure bicycle parking and a bike wash station, which would be good enough. But then throw in Velo Bike Shop on the ground floor as well as ViaBike, downtown Seattle’s first membership bicycle club. ViaBike offers bike storage, locker rooms, showers, and towel service.

The Rivet

A work bench and tools to keep your bike road- and trail-ready along with a comfy couch and a big screen TV make this room enjoyable and functional for cycle lovers everywhere. Individual lockers provide secure storage to ensure peace of mind.

"If REI had an apartment building, what would that look like?" That's one of the building's developers and they've answered that question on a lot of fronts (a bouldering wall among them). For cyclists, they have the Bike Lounge, a bike workshop with comfortable extras and storage for outdoor gear. There's bike tuning stands, a work table, a TV and a kitchenette. You can leave your bike in the secure gear storage room when you're not on it.

Their custom designed Bike Room ensures your bike will be under lock and key both and day and night. There’s also plenty of space to ensure that your road-weary friend is resting comfortably and is easily accessible anytime you want to take a spin on the Burke-Gilman, which is right around the corner.
