If you've ever taken an extended look around Puget Sound on Google Maps, you've probably come across one of the strangest land anomalies in the United States: Point Roberts. Located just below the 49th parallel, which normally dictates the border between the U.S. and Canada, you'll find the 5-square mile "exclave" that's a part of America thanks to a quirk in the nation's expansion. If you wanted to get there from any other point in the United States, you would have to go through Canada to get there (either by land or by sea). 1,300 full-time residents call this hanging thumbnail home, a handful of them said to be relocated by the U.S. Marshals Service's Witness Security Program. Even if you're not looking for anonymity, you might be looking for a little seclusion without losing your proximity to civilization. If that's the case, you might want to consider Point Roberts. Here's the cheapest options currently available on the market (cause it should be known there's some pretty pricy options there as well).
